If you came back for just five minutes

Summary:

After delivering his ten-year-old daughter at his ex-wives house on january sixth, the 42-year-old Gary Hampson is not seen again. No one knows what happend, the police from East-Sussex only hit dead ends, they haven't even found a body yet. This is very hard on the little girl, especially with Father's Day. She wrote a letter to her father for the occasion, telling him all kinds of things she wanted to tell him, but obviously couldn't. She talked about 14 things, among them the question how her father had died and that she wanted a chance to say goodbye to him. There is hope that this letter will make someone do the right thing and let the little girl know what happend to her father.

Opinion:

It is awful to read about a ten-year-old losing her daddy, but to read her letter (inserted in the article) is really heartbreaking. You start to think about all the other kids who have to miss their father on that special day, kids who don't have a father to make something for at school. It really breaks my heart, and I hope there will be someone who will help this girl find some peace by telling her what happend to her father.

At least he got to say goodbye

Summary:

The 65-year-old Ollie Hill lost control of his car last thursday, and his pick-up truck drove straight into another trailer. His two-year-old grandchild received several injuries, but unlike his grandfather he survived the accident. The old man knew he wouldn't survive this and called his wife, to let her know what was happening. The ironic part of this story is the fact that Hill had already written a letter describing what he would want to happen with his body when he would die. This letter was written because of an operation he was scheduled to have in a few days, just thinkinbg about the chance that he might not come out of this surgery.

Opinion:

I think this is a very sad story, but it also has a beautiful touch to it. The fact that this man called his wife to let her know what happend and to say goodbye, is a beautiful thing to me. It shows of the love of this man for his wife, and that is why the story had drawn my attention. But it is always very sad to hear of someone dying too young, and I can't imagine what trauma's the little boy will have because of this accident.

BBC Pro-Euthanasia?

Summary:

A television program broadcasted by the BBC leaves the viewer with the feeling that the BBC is supporting euthanasia. They broadcasted a program that showed how Peter Smedley (71) goes to Dignitas clinic in Switzerland to end his life there. He was accompanied by his wife Christine and fantasy-writer sir Terry Pratchett. Pratchett is already known for his campaigning to legalize euthanasia, which gives people even more chance to consider this program just another campaigning act from him. This is said because the show seems to be promoting, romanticising and normalising assisted death, also known as euthanasia.

Opinion:

I think this is a big fuss over nothing, it's just a television program. If the BBC broadcasts a movie about the romantic side of a war doesn't mean they want another war to happen. And I think it is sad that someone has to go all the way to Switzerland to accomplish this.

Six-day-old girl scarred for life by midwives

Summary:

On the fifteenth of May two midwives came to Julie Ward and her little girl Katie to see if the six-day-old baby was healthy. They asked the mother to fill a bowl with hot water, which she did, and then when the mother had turned they put the little girls left foot in the hot water. They did this without even checking the temperature and after the mother had told them it was really hot. The mother heard a scream and turned to see her baby in pain because the skin was hanging from her foot. The incident is  being researched, but the Stafford Hospital from which the midwives came, already has a pretty bad trackrecord. So this just adds to the numbers. The fact that they didn't even mention to the mother that one of the midwives was only a student doesn't work to their advantage as well.

Opinion:

I think this is ridiculous! Such horrendous mistakes shouldn't be possible! In the medical world mistakes are possible, just like everywhere else, but mistakes like this are not supposed to happen. A five-year-old knows not to put his fingers in steaming water, but a midwive forgets?! I think there is simply no excuse for this mistake and the midwives who was qualified should have their license taken away from her!
