Summary:
According to research people are more inclined to commit suicide when they live in an evironment where other people are happy. This probably has to do with the fact that your own suffering is easier to handle when everyone around you is also miserable. If the people around you are happy then your own issues feel like much bigger problems and much more difficult to solve. Which leads to much more suicides because people are sooner inclined to give up on their life altogether. So happiness around depressed people leads up to more suicides then when they are surrounded by people who are also depressed.
Opinion:
I found this story very interesting, because it looks like the two things are contradicting each other, but when you read the article you start to realize that it actually makes sense. If you see other people without any problems, then your own problems seem substantially bigger. People always look at each other and compare their lives, and if yours seems so much worse then it seems like you don't have much to live for, which leads to much more suicides. In a happy environment the unhappy people just simply stand out more. When you read the article, the headline starts making sense and even seems logical.
